This has been a popular area for all sorts of recreational pursuits for many years. Hard work by ARAC (the Akatarawa Recreational Access Committee) has ensured that continued access will be possible in the future for responsible 4x4 users.

The map shows tracks and areas where access is permitted. In most cases, a permit from the Regional Council is required for 4x4 access. The club regularly organises trips into various parts of the forest block.
