Red Rocks and Wellington's South Coast are one of the more readliy accessible off-road areas close to Wellington. Public access is open every day except Sunday - access is via the Ohiro Bay quarry. This is track 80 in Andy Cockrofts "4WD North Island" book.

Keep to the well used track unless you are proficient in driving in soft sand or are traveling with others with recovery gear - it's not hard to get stuck on some of the beach sections.
