Trips are generally graded to suit driver experience and vehicle types: from novice/family/shiny vehicle trips (easy going, little risk of damage) to hard yakka (harder going, greater experience required, risk of a bit more than a few paint scratches!). All trips offer a great way to get out into the wilds, often to places that are off limits to free public access.
Family shiny trips are open to prospective members. [See the Trips page for details on required equipment and trip fees]
We have found that "real" 4wd vehicles are necessary for the terrain that we generally visit. So all vehicles do need to have 4wd and a low-ratio option in their gearbox. We have found that 4wd cars and vans are not suitable as they are prone to being damaged even on gentle trips, mainly due to their low ground clearance.
Membership of the club is open to anyone with an interest in off-roading. To qualify for membership, prospective members are required to participate in at least three club trips, one of which must be a training day. This gives them a chance to find out if club membership is really for them. It also gives club members a chance to get to know them.
Prospective members are welcome to attend club meetings which are held monthly on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 7:30pm upstairs at the Petone Working Mens Club in Udy St, Petone.
Membership Application Forms can be obtained from a Trip Leader during a trip or from the New Members Officer on club night.
The Membership Application Form, when submitted, must show details of trips attended, including Fees paid and vehicle equipment checks passed.
As soon as a prospective member has attended three CCVC trips, one of which needs to be the club's training day, and had their vehicle passed by a club vehicle inspector, they are eligible to join the club. Their Membership Application Form can be submitted to a Trip Leader or New Members Officer.
The New Members Officer or Trip Leader will annotate the Membership Application Form with the date received. The Trip Leader will pass forms on to a New Members Officer as soon as possible.
The New Members Officer will validate the Fee payments with the Treasurer (who has records from the Trip Sheets).
When an applicant is accepted by the Committee and the necessary fees received, the Membership Card etc will be mailed to the applicant immediately (to reduce excess Visitor Fee payments).
| Note: The Visitor Fee still applies to any further trips attended by a prospective member until their membership is approved. |
